Dennis Brogan is an entrepreneur, actor, author and publisher residing in Syracuse, NY. Dennis has performed in regional theater and worked in the broadcasting industry. The last sixteen years he has owned and operated two successful marketing and design companies in Syracuse and across the Upstate Region. His inspiration for writing is born in his father Bill’s storytelling and the influence of Ernest Hemingway. Over the last thirty-four years his study and research of Ernest M. Hemingway has led to his picking up a pencil and a yellow pad. Brogan has authored a one-man play on Ernest Hemingway titled; Papa and Evening with Ernest where he portrays Mr. Hemingway during a visit from a young reporter from Petosky, Mi. on his veranda in Cuba. That play is in pre-production now.
Over those years he has written many a story with several in final draft stage. Dennis attended a writing symposium in Walloon Lake, Mi. in March of 2022. Cristen Hemingway Jaynes and The Lake Walloon Writers Association hosted the event. During his time in Walloon Lake, Dennis began writing a series of short stories titled, Stories from Lake Walloon, which are influenced by Hemingway’s Nick Adams Stories.
A Patriot Peacemaker, A Tale from Walloon Lake, began with Ice and the Old Man, which is the second chapter in the book. It was written at 5:00am on Friday March 4, 2022, as he looked out over the frozen Walloon Lake and the fishing shacks. Dennis has other fictional novels in the writing stage. A story that evening at the Hotel Walloon was told by a retired criminal lawyer who was attending from Chicago. It was of a letter found in NYC by a legal friend. In the letter it tells the story of Old Man and the Sea being about a young boy, not an Old Man. Fish Story, Chasing Ernest tells the story of Dennis Murphy, a literature professor at Hobart College on the pursuit of the real fish story from Hemingway’s second first mate and fishing guide, Gregorio Fuentes whose story unveils the real fish story about the biggest Marlin ever caught. His other new novel is titled, “The Bowels of Ballybunion, From the Dunes of Ballybunion to the Long Shadows of Augusta”, is in the final stages.

Like Hemingway Dennis writes every day. As a writer adheres to the following rules: Keep your first sentence short, keep you paragraphs short when you can. Use vigorous language and be positive. Also never finish your last sentence of the day. Leave it so you can pick up where you left off. Like Hemingway…
Dennis also had a fifteen year career as The Dome Ranger at Syracuse University Football, Basketball and Lacrosse games. Dennis bleeds Orange!
Dennis owns The Sustainable Press and is a literary agent for up-and-coming writers looking to publish their stories. “Writing is easy, you just sit down with a yellow pad and a pencil and bleed.”- EMH
