“I’m going to tackle resealing the Genoa car rail this weekend. Some reading online suggests different approaches, sealant, Butyl tape etc. I’m going down the 3M 5200 route. Any tips or advice?

No to 5200 ! Use 3M 4000 UV instead. Good in sunlight and removable in the future.
Use wide masking on either side of the track for easier clean-up.
Several small rags are better than one large one and better than paper towels
Nylon gloves resist acetone best if you use it for clean-up
Run a drill into the fastener holes to clear away old sealant
Add a countersink to the holes if they don’t have them already. This adds a “well” to increase surface area for the sealant
Check the washers on the underside for cupping. If they have it, replace them with new stronger ones. Hopefully a backing strip is in place instead of just washers
That should do it.
